Pillowise - Finally, a Pillow That Measures Up

No two bodies are the same, and a pillow that suits one person can leave another with a stiff neck. Pillowise takes a different approach: three simple body measurements determine the pillow height and contour that keep your head and neck in neutral alignment, whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach.

This guide walks you through taking your measurements, finding your size and choosing your pillow. If you would rather have it done for you, our physiotherapy team offers professional fittings at AMS Clinic.

The three measurements

Precision matters — a difference of a centimetre can change your recommended size. Use a soft measuring tape and, if possible, have someone else measure you.

  1. Shoulder width — measure the distance from the tip of one shoulder bone (the acromion) to the other, following the natural curve of your back. Do not pull the tape tight in a straight line.
  2. Neck circumference — measure the full circumference around the middle of your neck. Keep the tape resting comfortably against the skin, without squeezing.
  3. Neck height — with your head upright, measure the vertical distance from the bottom of your earlobe (or the bone just behind it) down to the tip of your shoulder.

Find your size

Once you have your three numbers, enter them into the official Pillowise size calculator. You will also be asked for your preferred sleeping position (back, side or stomach) and the firmness of your mattress, which fine-tune the recommendation.

The colour-coded fit system

Every size in the adult Pillowise range is identified by a colour. The range sold in Canada includes six colours — Pink, Orange, Green, Blue, Red and Purple — and each corresponds to a specific pillow height and firmness. Your measurements, sleeping position and mattress firmness determine which colour is right for you, so there is no need to guess.

Once you know your colour, select it on the product page — you will find the full collection at the bottom of this guide.

Junior and Travel formats

Beyond the standard pillow, Pillowise also makes a Junior pillow sized for growing children and a compact Travel pillow that offers the same measured support in a smaller format. You will find the Travel pillow in the collection below; contact us about the Junior pillow.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which Pillowise colour is right for me?

The best way is to be measured using the Pillowise three-measurement system. Visit AMS Clinic for a fitting, or contact us about measurement options. Each colour corresponds to a specific height and firmness based on your measurements.

What makes Pillowise different from other orthopedic pillows?

Pillowise uses your actual measurements to determine your ideal pillow specifications, rather than a one-size-fits-all shape. It's developed by physiotherapists, and the colour-coded system helps match the height and firmness your body needs for proper alignment.

Can I use Pillowise if I sleep in different positions?

Yes. The measurement process accounts for your primary sleep position, and Pillowise pillows are designed to support you whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.

How long does a Pillowise pillow last?

With proper care, Pillowise pillows typically maintain their shape and support for several years. We recommend using a pillow protector and following the included care instructions.

What if I'm not satisfied with my pillow?

Please contact us within 30 days of purchase and we'll help make sure you have the right pillow for your needs, including re-measurement if necessary.
